Access to the SD card in the Ender 3 via Octoprint from the PC

  • Hello,

For a few days I have had a Raspberry PI 3B on which I installed Octoprint.

    Octoprint also works so far.

But my problem looks like this:

I would like to be able to copy and delete files directly from the PC to the SD card of the Ender-3.

Unfortunately I can't get access to it, don't even know how to get to the SD.

I installed Samba on the Rasp server and now at least get the ones I have shared on the network

To see folder from the Rasp and also have access to it.

But how do I get to the SD card from the Ender directly via the Rasp?

Is that possible and if so ... how do I have to do that?

If anyone has an idea, please let us know.

    Thank you and lg

  • Moin Skyworker62,

first of all: Welcome to the forum!

if you have installed Octoprint on an RPi, you can simply access the RPi's SD card.

Or does your printer still have its own SD card?

I have NO idea and A LOT of it !!

Maybe you will meet in the RPi chat corner.

  • You can find the SD card under / media / pi /?

You can set up a drive under Samba under this path.

But I don't think it's a good idea. How do you want to eject the SD card in Windows on the RPi?

And Linux just doesn't like pulling it out. It may even cost you the SD card.

    Kind regards

  • I think he means the SD card in the printer

  • I have my doubts whether that is possible.

At the moment I prefer an SD card to transport my STL files to the printer.

    Annoying, but safer.

    Kind regards

    Jürgen

  • I have an Anicubic and not an Ender 3, so I don't know whether it will also work with the Ender.

    - Connect Octoprint with your 3D printer in the tab "Connection", if you cannot connect you cannot save any files on the SD card.

    - In the "Files" tab click on "Upload (SD)" a new window will open.

    - Now you can select your GCODE file. It is saved directly on the printer's SD card (ATTENTION, it takes a long time for me, about 2-3 minutes for 1.2MB)

    - If you only want to see the files from the SD card in the Octoprint, click on the open-ended spanner in the "Files" tab and select "Only show files stored on SD"

But if you want to transfer a lot of files quickly then take out the SD card and insert it into your PC, as suggested by Jürgen.

  • Hello,

thank you for the answers to my question.

So my concern is that I don't always want to take the SD card out of the ender.

With the function in the Octoprint Upload (SD) it is so that Octoprint then directly after the

Want to print the upload. But it shouldn't, because I want to start the start manually on the printer.

My only concern is to move the Gcode file directly to the SD card in the Ender using my PC.

And of course to monitor the pressure via WiFi, which also works very well.

The only thing I can't get to is the km Ender-3 SD card.

Can you get on it with the rasp?

    Lg

    Hello Bernd,

yes my printer still has its own SD card and would like to access it directly.

I get to the Rasp from the PC with the Samba server.

My hope was that I would get the card from the printer from the Rasp.

But this is not the normal behavior of Octoprint. Neither the "Upload" nor the "Upload (SD)" button starts printing by itself. Have you installed any plugins or made any settings? Or is that a peculiarity of the Ender?

No, I currently have the pure standard installation on it.

I was also a little surprised that it just starts printing.

I guess it has nothing to do with the Enders.

  • Is there a reason why you are taking this rather awkward path? Octoprint actually makes the printer's internal card superfluous. Normally you load the Gcode file directly onto the OctoPi and then start printing from the OctoPi interface. You don't even have to go to the printer to do this.

I have just set up Octoprint again, and now I can use the SD upload button to transfer the Gcode to the SD card.

In Octopi, the file on the SD is displayed to me.

But when I look at the card via the printer menu, it shows a new file, but with a file name of a file that was previously on it and has been deleted.

Did you ever have that too?

  • No, I didn't have that. I don't really use the SD upload function. I load my data directly into Octoprint and start the print jobs from there.

Tomorrow I'll try to do it again.

    Hello Steinardo,
I found the bug because of the wrong filename.
After I completely cleaned the SD card with Diskpart, the error was gone.

I assume that there was garbage in the partition table of the card.

I can now write files to the card using the SD upload button.

I also shared the Watched folder on the network via the Samba server.

I can now also use this to send data to the printer via the network.

This makes the transmission faster because it only goes as far as the Octopi.

I can live with these solutions.

I thank everyone for the help.

  • Moin Skyworker62,

then, just mark your topic as done.

You can do this under "Edit topic" above. Thanks!
