Assigning a static IP address on Ubuntu Linux

By default, Ubuntu uses DHCP settings to provide an IP address for the system. However, in many cases you may need to use a static IP address. If your Ubuntu system uses DHCP and you want to assign it a static IP address, configuring it is not a huge task. To do this, just go through the simple steps below.

First, right-click Network symbol is located at the top and select Edit connections.


The Network connectionThe window will appear. Now click on Add Click the button to add a new network connection, then go directly to IPV4 settings Tab.

Select the Manual Option of the method Drop down menu.

Now click on Add Then enter the IP address, netmask and gateway information in the field Addresses Section.

Click that Apply Button to complete the configuration. Now you can use this newly created network connection which has a static IP address. Enjoy!
