Diplomacy and Trading with Total War Three Kingdoms Tips

Diplomacy in All-Out War: Three Kingdoms have seen dramatic changes compared to previous games in the series. On the one hand it is more transparent now, on the other hand it offers much more interesting options and strategies that you can use the game. Diplomacy is also closely related to trade, both of which are discussed in this chapter.

Effects of Diplomacy

By default, the Diplomacy window shows your faction's relationship with others.

You can open the Diplomacy window by clicking the appropriate button in the upper left corner of the screen or by simply pressing the "3" key. When you do this, you will see a world map showing all of the factions still in the game, as well as their respective countries. Once you open the map you will be able to see the relationship between other factions and yours. Click on another player's other countries to see the relationship between that particular faction and everyone else (including yours). Everything is presented in matching colors:

  • Willow Green - factions that live in a very close relationship and are marked as best friends;
  • Green groups live in close, friendly relations;
  • Yellow - faction that lives in a neutral phase;
  • Orange factions live in a hostile relationship;
  • Red - different shades of red signal hostile relationships. The darker the color, the more hostile the faction is.
  • Hover over the icon next to the faction name to review the details of the relationship.

    Additionally, each faction in the list that appears on the right side of the screen has an icon with a face in one of the above colors. Hover over it for details about the relationship - what contracts have been made between the factions, what are the positive and negative aspects of the relationship, the current level and the level the relationship will have in the next round. Particularly noteworthy is "tendency rising". You can use this value to determine whether, for example, a certain faction changes its attitude towards you in the next round (declaration of war, proposal of a trade agreement or a diplomatic and / or political representative, military alliance).

    Use of diplomacy and the options available

    After clicking the "NEGOTIATE" button, a list of all the diplomatic and trade options available will be displayed.

    To use diplomacy you have to open the mentioned window (key "3"). Once you have done this, simply click on the group you wish to negotiate with and hit the "AGREEMENT" button. After that, the Diplomacy window will change slightly and you will have access to several category buttons. You can use:

  • War - Here you will find war-related functions such as declaring a war, sending an ultimatum, assisting an ally in a military conflict, or sending a request for assistance.
  • Peace - here you will find activities to end a military conflict by making peace between factions or alliances.
  • Trading and Marriage - This is where you will find all the trading options available, such as: B. the ability to pay or receive gold, trade groceries and goods, and options related to marriage.
  • Vassals - This section provides options for vassals. Here you can ask another faction to become their vassal or try to convince another faction to become your vassal. A faction that has a vassal can ask for help at any time and receive part of their income. This faction can also annex a vassal and include their settlements and armies in their faction.
  • Alliances - this is where you will find options to form a coalition and invite other factions to join. With the help of coalitions, you can join forces with other factions in military conflicts - in the event of an attack, other factions must come to the rescue. Coalitions can be transformed into military alliances in which all factions have to vote (they cannot make their own decisions) before declaring war or starting military conflicts with other factions.
  • Diplomatic Treaties - This section provides options to help you enter into various treaties with other political groups, such as: B. Non-aggression pact and free access for troops. Later in the game, you can incorporate factions into yours, convince the emperor to give up his title, or convince another faction to do so. You'll also find options related to Credibility, a unique resource for Cao Cao.
  • War Coordination - These options allow you to set the target for your allies or coalition members.
  • The window for diplomatic negotiations.

    In Total War: Three Kingdoms, diplomacy has taken the form of negotiation. After selecting one of the options described above, the player receives information about the possible "costs" of this action. It is represented as a negative value - "-5", "-10" or "-50". If you want to take a certain action, you need to give something away - offer compensation, trade in groceries, and so on - which in turn provides positive value for the negotiation. In order to complete the promotion, a value of at least "zero" must be reached (the difference between the suggestions made by the player and the other faction). If you go above zero, you have a greater chance of improving faction relationships.

    The "cost" of an action depends on the level of relationship between the factions - how much you have to give away to trigger an action. The better the relationship (these levels were described at the beginning of this chapter), the lower the costs. The overall strength of your faction also affects this - the stronger you are, the more negatively the other faction will approach you.

    Team up with other factions and be a vassal

    Your vassal will arrive with military assistance if necessary.

    As in the previous entries in the Total War series, there is also the option of joining another faction to the Confederate or making them your vassal. In the first case, the faction is completely absorbed - you get all the associated settlements and armies, as well as the characters hired by it. Unfortunately, you also get the financial situation - if the earnings per turn have been negative, expect a big blow to your economy. The option of making someone your servant is more interesting - the faction will be there on every call (for example, they will unconditionally assist you in the event of a conflict). You also get part of his income. Later, you can absorb the vassal - it works on the same principle as when you ally them.

    In either case, you need to prepare for high costs. Either option requires you to give the other faction adequate encouragement by offering generous wages, items, or a lucrative commercial or diplomatic offer. Both of these options are also pretty out of reach if the faction is hostile to you. These diplomatic options are only available to allies and best friends.

    Marriage - How To Use It And What It Offers

    Marriage is also a new mechanism in the game. Thanks to this, you can establish a marriage between one of the members of your court and a character from another faction. This diplomatic option is distinguished by the following features:

  • Only a very small group of generals and members of the court can be married off to a member of another faction. Such a person will have an icon with two hearts next to their portrait.
  • If the marriage is made, the relationship between the two factions will improve significantly - this is the most profitable diplomatic option in the game as it offers the greatest growth.
  • This is a great diplomatic option for improving relationships with a faction that is very negative on yours or with whom other options, such as trading, may not provide sufficient improvement.
  • Marriage between a member of your court and a member of a court belonging to another faction prevents you from taking military action against that faction. If you do so, you will face a huge penalty for your relationship with this faction.
  • How to trade with others

    The final and equally important diplomatic option is trade. The trade is divided into several parts. You can send or receive a certain amount of gold from another faction as a one-time or long-term payment. The same applies to food - you can send a certain amount of food over X rounds to another faction or obtain it from another faction. The third option is trading items - weapons, armor, mounts, pendants, or accessories - for influence, gold, or asserting other diplomatic options.

    The fourth and separate topic is exchange. You exchange one commodity (grain, rice, iron, jade, silk, etc.) for another from the other faction - this leads to a large increase in the gold that you get each turn. This is also the option with the most restrictions - the number of exchange offers depends on the development of the faction (level, buildings built and assigned positions in the court). You can only trade goods with factions that you have direct access to (whose border is next to yours or that can be accessed through an ally's territory).
