Hair does not grow - deficiency symptoms?

Dear Doctor. Busse, I have a question that preoccupies me. My daughter is now 3 1/2 years old and her hair just doesn't grow. She has very thin hair and it is no longer than her ears. Since a lot of people have spoken to me about why I always cut their hair short and not let it grow (as is customary with girls), I wonder if my daughter has some defect that means that her hair doesn’t grow properly. Other girls already have braids or at least shoulder-length hair, ours looks like a boy. In addition, she regularly loses hair on the top of the head (above the forehead), as if it were breaking off. Can I support them with nutrition or something similar or is it a predisposition, is there a vitamin deficiency? What do you advise me? Thank you and greetings.

Dear S.,
spontaneously, I would most likely think of an innate predisposition. Your pediatrician can clarify that.
All the best!

Hair does not grow - deficiency symptoms?

Hello,

just wanted to tell you briefly about us, I'm really looking forward to Dr. Buses.

Our second daughter is now 2.3 years old and you can even see her scalp, she has so little and thin hair. The ones she has are curly. Only last Friday I was back at the hairdresser with her, because she has such felt hair after sleeping, the hairdresser said I shouldn't do anything, first let it grow another 3-4 cm. So far, her hair has come down to her ears.

Our 1st daughter already had 2 pigtails on her 1st birthday and our 3rd daughter is 8 months old and has hair all over her head.

It's strange, but I never realized that there might be a vitamin deficiency.
But you see other people too.

Hair does not grow - deficiency symptoms?

Hi,
my youngest will be 3 in october and has hardly any hair (so very thin, they are short anyway, have a boy). When I think of his big brother and look at photos from when he was 3, my little one also has significantly less hair!
So you are not alone I also know that we are predisposed (like Doc. Busse said).

Hair does not grow - deficiency symptoms?

Hello, your question is a bit older. I came across this by accident as we have the exact same problem. Our daughter will soon be four and has very short hair that simply never gets longer. Did you find out why and how did it go on? Has she got any longer hair at all, and approximately when? Our daughter is starting to suffer from the boys hairstyle. best regards

Answer:

Hair does not grow - deficiency symptoms?

I've never had to cut my 5 year old daughter's hair because it just doesn't grow. Since she doesn't eat meat, I've always been somehow latently worried about what the iron supply looks like. However, it is not prone to infections, nor does it have torn corners of the mouth or similar classic symptoms of iron deficiency. Just a little weak sometimes, although I also thought it could just be laziness ... The pediatrician said that it was definitely not an iron deficiency, she was much too fit for that. But lo and behold, a very pronounced iron deficiency was found, already anemia. So just want to give this hint to everyone here to think in this direction. A blood count is done quickly, then you have security.
