Canon printer drivers: where can I find an updated driver?

The manufacturer Canon has set up a support page and a download center for its products. Here you will find various error codes and other software as well as all current drivers for your Canon printer or multifunction device. These include the products of the PIXMA and MAXIFY series. Downloads for other Canon products are also offered here.

Tip: On the Canon website you will not only find Canon drivers for ink and laser printers as well as multifunctional devices with scanners and possibly faxes, but also for other Canon devices such as cameras, video recorders and scanners.

How do I find and download the correct Canon driver?

You can download the current drivers from the download center and then install them. The SUPERPATRON is at your side with the following step-by-step instructions. As an example, we have chosen the driver for a PIXMA printer.

  1. Select your series and printer model from the list of current downloads. Again to explain: In our example you will be shown the support for the PIXMA product range, of course you select the right product that you actually own. By the way: This area also includes other software for your printer, as well as manuals. You can also find out about error codes and access technical support here. To do this, use the appropriate tab (dialog box) that is displayed after your device has been selected.

  2. Now check whether the Canon download center has correctly recognized your operating system. If this is not the case or if you want to download the driver for a different operating system, simply select the desired operating system from the support drop-down menu. Always pay attention to the correct operating system in the dialog box, otherwise there will be compatibility problems.

  3. Canon recommends that you download software for your printer, which you can save on your PC by clicking "Download". Alternatively, you can download the driver for your product further down in the download center without any additional software (see screenshot).
  4. After you accept the disclaimer in the dialog box, the download will start. After the download, open the downloaded file for your product and follow the instructions of the installation software, which will guide you through the process from dialog box to dialog box.

  5. Once the installation is complete, you will need to restart your computer and start printing. This is actually a very important step in this guide. Explanation: If you forget to restart, the installation is not complete!

What is a Canon driver and what do I need it for?

Drivers are generally used as a communication interface between a computer and an advanced device. A suitable Canon printer driver ensures that your computer can correctly exchange commands with your Canon printer or multifunction device and that no error codes are output. This is the only way to ensure that the device receives the print jobs and carries them out correctly. Up-to-date drivers are therefore essential and must be suitable because of the compatibility with the operating system and the product.

Changes to the operating system, for example in the form of updates, occasionally also require the printer driver to be updated. If the system is reinstalled or a different version is downloaded, the Canon printer driver must also be reinstalled. This allows your Canon printer to work efficiently and in the best case even save ink. If you combine that with our environmentally friendly refill products for Canon printer cartridges, you can save twice as much.

Current Canon drivers are also useful to avoid problems with USBprint. Some Canon printer series offer you the option of using USBprint to print out image files directly from a compatible USB stick. Functions such as scanners, faxes, etc. in multifunctional devices from Canon will also remain satisfactorily operable with the latest drivers.
