BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe (F44) 2019 - Present

Developed just in time to wrest some sales from the second-generation Mercedes-Benz CLA, the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé is the first of its kind in the Bavarian model range.

Just like the CLA, which is its only direct competitor, the 2 Series Gran Coupe is marketed as a four-door coupe, a sportier alternative to the more classic BMW 1 Series Sedan. It's not the first compact BMW available in the United States, but it'll be the cheapest if you don't include its M-Performance version.

Although built exclusively in Leipzig, after the world premiere of the Gran Coupé of the 2-series and the Los Angeles Auto Show in 2019, almost 20 percent of all cars built will find their way to the USA. Based on the front-wheel drive architecture of the UKL2, which BMW originally developed for its MINI model range, the model focuses primarily on the design features. As with the Mercedes-Benz CLA, the doors have frameless windows and the roof is much more sloping backwards compared to a normal sedan such as the 1-series. This leads to a sportier shape, but to a little less headroom, especially for the rear passengers. The Gran Coupé of the 2 series will be available with both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, with the top engines being offered exclusively with AWD.
