Content:Main difference: A water bug is an aquatic insect that belongs to the order Blattaria. It is an insect found in bodies of water such as lakes and rivers. A cockroach is a black or brown winged insect and belongs to the order Blattodea. A cockroach is very similar to a water bug. Cockroaches mostly stay on land, while water bugs mostly stay in the water.
Many people confuse the two and think that they are both the same. However, they are both different types of insects. American cockroaches live in sewers, so they are often referred to as water bugs.
As the name suggests, a waterbug lives in or on lakes, ponds, streams or other bodies of water. They are similar to cockroaches in many ways. They have an oval body. The front part of the body is large. They have piercing mouthpieces and with the help of these mouth parts they suck up the body fluids of small fish, insects, etc. They have two legs in front known as squeakers. The pincers are used to stab the prayer. They can grow up to 4 inches tall. The water bugs that either swim through or walk on the water most of the time are considered true water bugs.
Cockroaches have broad to flat bodies. They have hard and protective pairs of wings. There is also a delicate pair of inner wings
used for flying. The eyes are quite noticeable and compound. The size of an adult cockroach ranges from one-half to four inches. Cockroaches have been around since the times of the dinosaurs. A cockroach can live a long time without food, and that time can be up to 31 days. A cockroach can survive for about two weeks without water.
