WhatsApp on the Android tablet - is that possible?

You can also use WhatsApp on your Android tablet - even if your tablet does not have a SIM card slot. We'll show you how to do this in this practical tip.

WhatsApp Messenger on the Android tablet via WhatsApp Web

You can also chat with your tablet via the "WhatsApp Web" interface. This works by synchronizing the incoming messages from your smartphone with your tablet.

  1. Download the Google Chrome browser to your tablet if you have not already installed it.
  2. Then go to the WhatsApp web app on the tablet.
  3. Then open WhatsApp on your smartphone and tap the three dots in the top right corner.
  4. Using the "WhatsApp Web" option, use your smartphone to scan the QR code that is displayed on the tablet.
  5. You can now chat on WhatsApp using your Android tablet. Note that the smartphone and tablet must be on the same network in order to use the service.

Use WhatsApp on the Android tablet

If your Android tablet has a SIM card slot, you can proceed as follows:

  • Insert your SIM card into the appropriate slot.
  • Under "Settings" go to "Security" and check the box next to "Unknown sources". Select "Ok" to confirm. Here's how you can install WhatsApp manually.
  • Download the APK file from WhatsApp. Start the app and activate the device by confirming the terms and conditions and entering your mobile phone number of the inserted SIM card.
  • You will then receive a confirmation SMS. You can now use WhatsApp and remove your SIM card again, because WhatsApp runs over WiFi.
